  • The miner explains that, of the USD 342,000 obtained, he will have to pay USD 158,000 in taxes.

  • Solo Bitcoin mining is an extremely low-odds operation.

A lone miner managed to solve an entire block of bitcoin using a small set of home equipment, known as minimineros. The event was reported by the user himself in the r/BitAxe forum on Reddit, where he shared the technical details of the event and the magnitude of the luck that accompanied it.

The news that a block had been found alone began to circulate on social networks on October 24, as reported by NoticiasVE. Hours later, the miner himself appeared on Redditwhere he revealed that he had been the author of the discovery and explained how he achieved it using a small set of homemade equipment.

In the r/BitAxe thread, the user shared the technical details of his feat: he used 6 NerdAxe and one Avalon Q, all operating under his direct control. With this modest rig, he achieved something that many miners only dream of: find a bitcoin block without being part of a pool and keep the full reward of 3,125 BTC plus commissions, equivalent to about USD 342,000 at the time of discovery.

The miner himself acknowledged that the event was a matter of pure luck. In his publication, he compared it to “winning the lottery.”a fairly accurate analogy considering that solo mining (solo mining) has extremely low odds of success.

While large mining farms operate at tens of petahashes per second (PH/s), this user’s rig barely added up to a tiny fraction of that power. However, his node was the first to solve the puzzle corresponding to the block, allowing him to claim the full reward without intermediaries.

A stroke of luck with a bill included

The miner also revealed a less fortunate aspect of his story: Of the USD 342,000 obtained, you will have to pay about USD 158,000 in taxesas estimated in his publication.

Still, the community celebrated the fact as a reminder of the original spirit of Bitcoin. Some highlighted that cases like this keep decentralization alive, demonstrating that even an individual operator, with modest resources, can directly contribute to the network’s consensus.

Although the event does not change the global distribution of hashrate, dominated by large data centers, it does have symbolic value. This episode reaffirms that Bitcoin remains an open and accessible network, where any participant can, in theory, find a block and receive their reward without depending on intermediaries.
