Alejandro «El Tuerto» Andrade, guardaespaldas de Hugo Chávez y tesorero de Venezuela entre 2008 y 2010, aseguró que su sucesora, Claudia Díaz, formó parte de redes de corrupción en el país y recibió millones de dólares en sobornos.

“Hice acuerdos con ciertas personas para obtener beneficios y que me pagaran sobornos”, dijo Andrade en el primer juicio en contra de Díaz en Estados Unidos. El militar es el testigo central del caso del Departamento de Justicia en contra de la extesorera.

Andrade aseguró ante el tribunal federal de Fort Lauderdale que reclutó a Díaz para una trama de corrupción cuando se convirtió en tesorera. Según los fiscales, ella y su esposo, Adrián Velásquez Figueroa, recibieron 100 millones de dólares en sobornos.

Andrade, ex guardaespaldas de Chávez, fue procesado en Estados Unidos por lavar 1.200 millones de dólares de Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa).

El Nuevo Herald tuvo acceso a las declaraciones de Andrade, quien afirmó que un empresario pagó sobornos a Díaz. “La mitad sería para ella y la otra mitad se dividiría entre el empresario y yo”, añadió.

ANDRADE SE ACERCÓ A DÍAZ

El militar aseguró que Hugo Chávez le dio el “control total” de la Oficina de la Tesorería de la Nación. Ese esa posición cultivó “relaciones lucrativas” con empresarios que contaban con casas de corretaje que cambiaban bolívares a dólares.

Esto le permitía negociar con un amplio margen entre las bolsas controladas por el Estado y las de mercado abierto, obteniendo millones de dólares en beneficios. En este contexto, se acercó a Díaz, tras la petición de uno de los empresarios.

Tras su salida de la Oficina de Tesorería, se acercó a Díaz para, presuntamente, continuar la compleja red de delincuencia internacional. De tal forma, la tesorera y su esposo habrían recibido millones de dólares en sobornos.

Díaz resultó detenida en España en 2020 y la extraditaron a Estados Unidos en mayo de 2022 para avanzar una acusación por lavado de dinero. La mujer afirmó que es inocente, pero los fiscales insisten que cuentan con evidencias de los delitos.
