Ukraine presents a new type of drone "patient": can be suspended for 14 days waiting for its victim without being detected

Spotting a drone in combat used to be a matter of looking at the sky or listening to the noise of its engines. If there was no radar signal or sound, it could be assumed that the area was safe, but that reality has completely changed in recent weeks.

Ukrainian manufacturer TAF Industries has begun mass producing technology that allows its drones to land, turn off their systems and remain hidden in the terrain for up to fourteen days before reactivating for a surprise attack.

A drone prepared to carry out long-term autonomous ambushes

The system is called Power Key and its main function is extreme energy management that allows the operator to take the drone to a strategic position and order an almost total shutdown.

It should be noted that The device cuts the power to the motors, the camera, as well as the video transmissionleaving only a small low-consumption receiver active.

This «hibernation» causes the unmanned aircraft to stop emitting radio frequency and heat signals. For Russian electronic intelligence teams, the drone disappears from the map.

It becomes indistinguishable from any other inert object on the ground by generating no traceable emissions. The drone listens, waiting for an encrypted signal to turn on again in a matter of seconds.

The advantage of this technology lies in the ability to create aerial traps without the limitations of drones connected by fiber optic cable. Soldiers can position these devices on enemy supply routes or transit areas and leave them there.

Tests carried out last summer showed that The drone can last two weeks in standby mode and retain enough battery for the final maneuver.

When the target appears, the operator reactivates the system, the drone takes off from its hiding place and executes the impact. They function in practice as intelligent mines that can wait for the perfect moment without exhausting their autonomy in the air.

Mass production is already underway

It is important to mention that this is not an experimental prototype, but rather Series production of these units with the integrated Power Key system began last December.

In fact, TAF Industries, which has the capacity to produce more than 80,000 drones per month, is already installing this board in standard models such as the Kolibri 7, 8 and 10.

There is no doubt that the deployment of these «patient drones» represents a complex challenge for military defense. Common jammers are of little use against a device that is turned off and not transmitting data.

This forces us to monitor not only the airspace, but any point on the ground where one of these devices may have been waiting silently for days, ready to attack without the enemy realizing it.
