The CEO of Tesla, Elon Muskhas announced that the electric car manufacturer will end the production of its vehicles Model S y Xand that it will use the Fremont, California, factory to build the humanoid robots Optimus.
“It is time to end the Model S and X programs with an honorable discharge,” Musk declared in the company’s fourth-quarter earnings presentation. “If you are interested in purchasing a Model S or Model X, now is the time to order it.”
The two models are Tesla’s oldest vehicles, and the company has slashed prices in recent years as global competition for electric vehicles increases. Tesla began selling the Model S sedan in 2012 and the Model X SUV three years later. Tesla’s most popular models are the 3 and Y, which accounted for 97% of the company’s 1.59 million deliveries last year.
“We are really heading towards a future based on autonomy,” said Musk, who anticipated a high level of capital investment. Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja said investors should expect about $20 billion in capital expenditures (Capex) this year, with investments in new factories, the Optimus and artificial intelligence resources.
In its results announcement on Wednesday, Tesla reported its first annual revenue drop on record (-3%), to $94.8 billion. with sales declining in three of the last four quarters.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, revenue also fell 3% to $24.9 billion, although it exceeded the $24.79 billion that analysts had expected. Earnings per share were 50 cents, also exceeding the 45 cents per share that analysts had expected.
Tesla shares register advances of almost 3% before the opening of the day on Wall Street.
