Microsoft continues to develop its artificial intelligence strategy for Windows 11 and seeks to make Copilot a more autonomous assistant and central to productivity.
Today, Copilot is already capable of multi-step investigations, data analysis, and even automations within the browser. The goal is to alleviate the burden of repetitive or complex tasks for professionals and companies, positioning Copilot as a central tool to manage daily work.
The new Copilot Tasks consolidates the different agents of the platform into a single interface. The functionality will allow you to create free-form or scheduled tasks, with single or recurring executions in daily, weekly or monthly cycles.
The tool will include three modes: Auto, Researcher and Analyst. Researcher uses OpenAI’s deep investigation model for complex web queries and work data; Analyst employs the o3-mini model, which allows advanced analysis with real-time execution of Python; Auto acts as a general agent, capable of combining investigation, browser automation, and executing complete tasks from start to finish.
Among the expected functions includes email summaries, presentation generation, formal letter writing, and booking managementamong others. Initial tests have shown high quality results, especially in the creation of slides and web reports.
Microsoft has not yet announced an official release date. Some features are not yet fully operational, and it is expected that in the future, Copilot Tasks can be extended to all of Windows 11 and the Edge browser, offering system-level automation.
