Movistar and O2 fiber goes off the charts: it works faster than the speed you contract

You may have noticed that, in recent days, Movistar and O2 fiber works slightly faster. It’s not you alone. The fiber optic speed of Telefónica companies has increased above what you have contracted.

In measurements carried out by users that have been confirmed by the company itself, 300 Megas fiber can reach 350 Mbps, and the same for 600 Megas and 1 Giga connections. All exceed the contract speed by 50 Mbps.

This is possible because connection speed is limited by software, depending on your contract. If you contract 600 Megabytes, that is what you receive, although its maximum capacity is usually at least 1 Gigabyte.

Why Movistar and O2 fiber is faster than what you contract

The speed of the fiber optic also depends on the router you have installed. If its speed is 600 Megabytes, it will not go beyond that, even if you hire the 1 GB one.

And of course we’re talking about connection in optimal conditionsthat is, you connect to the devices via Ethernet cable, not via WiFi, which always loses something due to the brakes caused by obstacles, or the air itself.

According to account Broadbandwhat Telefónica has done is increase sync speed profiles a bitregulated by the contract. Why have you made this decision?

The reason seems to be related to marketing. Telefónica wants to have the fastest fiber in the measurements of the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC)

For a few months now, The CNMC forces operators to measure the speed they offer to their customers in different nodes spread across the country. The results are published quarterly in the Interactive Service Quality Reportwhich you can consult here.

Although there is not much difference between operators, being in first position always gives prestige. In recent months Digi has been blowing Movistar’s ear in recent months, and it seems that Telefónica has slammed its fist on the table.

If you have O2 fiber or Movistarcan now operate up to 50 Mbps above the speed you have contracted. Via Ethernet cable, of course. With WiFi it is more difficult.
