Microsoft has confirmed that Outlook’s classic version for Windows presents a critical failure that prevents the application from opening correctly.

Specifically, affected users see the following error message: «Microsoft Outlook cannot be started. You can’t open the outlook window. You can’t open the folders set. The attempt to log in to Microsoft Exchange has failed.»

The error can occur in different contexts, although the reported cases are mainly related to user mailboxes.

Microsoft explains that, to confirm if a system is affected, administrators can use Fiddler, a tool that allows monitoring and purifying network traffic.

The company indicates that it is investigating the cause of the ruling, But he warns that there is currently no direct way to solve it. The only alternative is to open a support case through the Microsoft 365 administration portal to mitigate the problem temporarily.

This incident occurs shortly after Microsoft announced the closure of Outlook Lite, the light version of the application, as part of its strategy to boost users to migrate to the new outlook for Windows.

Meanwhile, the official recommendation for those affected is to use the new outlook for Windows or, temporarily, resort to outlook web access (OWA) to continue managing emails and calendars without interruptions.
