WisdomTree calls quantum computing “the next big transformation.”
The investment firm WisdomTree launched the WisdomTree Quantum Computing Fund (WQTM) on the Chicago Stock Exchange (CBOE), a fund designed to offer exposure to the stocks of companies linked to the development of quantum computing and post-quantum cryptography.
The instrument replicates the performance of the WisdomTree Classiq Quantum Computing Index and has a management fee of 0.45% per year.
The manager indicated that «quantum computing has already passed the threshold of theory» and described it as «the next big transformation.»
According to Chris Gannatti, global head of research at WisdomTree, this technology could redefine sectors such as finance, pharmaceuticals, climate science and cybersecurity.
«Quantum computing is crossing the threshold from theory to commercial reality, the way electricity left the laboratory in the late 19th century, semiconductors jumped from military contracts to consumer products in the 1960s, and the Internet reshaped society in the 1990s,» Gannatti said.
The fund is supported by collaboration with Classiq, a company specialized in quantum softwareand offers access to a diverse set of companies. It includes everyone from quantum hardware and software developers to large technology companies with investments in the area. The composition is updated periodically to reflect developments in a rapidly evolving sector.
Segments represented at WQTM include quantum chips, algorithms, simulation, quantum computing services, quantum-resistant cryptography, networking and communications, as well as advanced materials and components. The goal is to capture the transition from current developments towards commercial adoption of quantum computing.
WQTM joins other funds that focus on the quantum computing niche, such as the Defiance Quantum ETF. The trend seems to be growing.
As defined by the NoticiasVE Cryptopedia, a quantum computer uses principles of quantum mechanics, such as superposition and entanglement, to execute calculations. This allows large volumes of data to be processed or complex systems to be simulated quickly.
In the field of cryptocurrencies, its potential represents a challenge for the security of assets such as Bitcoin, since it could violate their cryptographic systems.
