Google is working on an update to the earthquake alert system for Android, which will allow users to share earthquake notifications with their contactsincluding those who use iPhone.

AndroidAuthority localized in a preview version of Google Play Services a function that will allow these messages to be sent through social networks or messaging applicationsautomatically including the hashtag #AndroidEarthquakeAlerts.

The Android Earthquake Alert System (AEAS) was launched in 2020 and uses the accelerometers of Android phones to detect vibrations and alert users before seismic movements begin. In 2024, Google expanded the system to cover all US states and six US territories.

The system issues two types of alerts depending on the intensity of the tremors. The first, called “Be aware”, is activated by slight signals or light shocks. The second, “Take Action,” appears when there are moderate or strong tremors and includes detailed instructions on how to protect yourself. Once the earthquake ends, users can tap the “Next Step” option to receive instructions on what to do next.

With this new update, users will be able to spread these alerts easily, helping more people prepare for an earthquake.

By sharing the notification, Contacts will receive a standard Google message accompanied by the official hashtagwhich will even allow iPhone users to receive information indirectly through their Android friends.

In this way, Google reinforces its commitment to public safety and rapid communication during seismic events, turning Android phones into more effective prevention and warning tools.
