Telefónica and the National Cybersecurity Institute of Spain (INCIBE) have signed an agreement to carry out joint activities that strengthen cybersecurity in Spanish society. Thus, Telefónica becomes the first operator to collaborate with INCIBE, an entity dependent onl Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Serviceto promote the cyber-resilience of citizens, with special attention to minors and companies. These cybersecurity actions will be launched in the next 4 years throughout the territory and will be focused on dissemination and training to promote safe use of the digital ecosystem within the current European regulatory framework.
Among the activities and services that Telefónica and INCIBE will launch to increase the capabilities of the Spanish population in terms of cybersecurity culture with which to fight against cyber attacks and cyber threats, the following stand out:
- Creation and execution of campaigns in audiovisual format, both preventive and reactive, to help users protect their data and information in the digital environment.
- Activation of workshops, conferences or talksin order to increase their knowledge about cybersecurity among different groups.
- Carrying out personalized training courses for minors and company personnelafter a preliminary diagnosis of their needs according to their cybersecurity knowledge and skills.
- Development of other awareness actions regarding the responsible use of technology that improves resilience against digital crimes.
In addition, and by virtue of this avant-garde agreement, joint collaboration in activities already established by the operator and the public body will also be encouraged. For example, Telefónica Spain will collaborate with INCIBE to disseminate its support to citizens regarding cybersecurity, while the Spanish Cybersecurity Institute will participate in training or sectoral events that Telefónica organizes aimed at clients.
The collaboration between INCIBE and Telefónica had already been previously reflected in the agreement signed more than a decade ago by which the operator cooperates with the Internet User Security Office in the Antibotnet Service for the cleaning of compromised IP connections, creating a more secure and reliable network.
According to data from the INCIBE-CERT security incident response center, in the In 2024, they managed more than 97,000 cybersecurity incidents (16.6% more than the previous year). Of these, 67.6% affected citizens and 32.4% affected companies, especially SMEs, micro-SMEs and the self-employed.
