The next big thing for AI companies: flooding free users with ads

You have used artificial intelligence for free, and with generous limitations. That’s over. Soon, either you pay, or the ads are going to come out of your ears, as is happening now with YouTube, Netflix and company.

AI is following, point by point, the streaming manual to create addiction and dependency. When you can’t live without it, it will start advertising to force you to pay. The next step will be to raise the fee every six months, as HBO, Disney+ and company do.

Until now, we were in the first phase, like when Netflix cost 7 euros and encouraged everyone to share accounts with friends… What times… Now AI is free, there are generous limits, and ChatGPT subscriptions start at 9.99 euros.

Advertising comes to AI

Now that people are beginning to forget how to do homework, how to summarize a text, how to program, or how to ask for forgiveness, it is time to make the leap to the second phase, that is, add ads to free accounts.

According to account Financial TimesOpenAI has 800 million users, but only 5% pay the subscriptionand in the last quarter OpenAI has lost more than 10 billion dollars. A disaster. The same applies to Google, Meta and company.

Meta announced a few weeks ago the inclusion of ads in Llama and the rest, and now OpenAI is going to do the same with its ChatGPT with ads.

Apparently, OpenAI has discovered in a survey that «some users already assume that ChatGPT responses are ranked based on sponsorship and that the company sells ads. Some executive members are using this data to pressure the use of advertising.»

Google is even already testing ads: «I think it’s an opportunity to make AI search more useful in the future, especially in the advertising context. That’s why we’ve started doing some experiments with ads in AI mode and AI experiences,» said Google’s Robby Stein.

So everything points to that advertising will come to AI in a matter of months. Companies desperately need revenue.
