  • After his arrival in Argentina, he was denied entry and had to return to Switzerland without justification.

  • His presence in the country was to give a talk much anticipated by bitcoiners.

LABITCONF 2025 had among its list of speakers the cryptoanarchist Amir Taaki, whom he introduced in this way:

One of the first five Bitcoin developers in 2010, focused on privacy. He created the first coinjoin and stealth address codes, developed libbitcoin (the fastest implementation of Bitcoin) and founded the first British exchange. He also initiated the BIP process and wrote BIP 0001. He founded @TheDarkwallet with Cody Wilson and Vitalik Buterin, a project that inspired the first Ethereum developers. For years he carried out anarchist activism, founding hacklabs and social centers in Europe, and participated in the Catalan Integral Cooperative. In 2015 he joined the YPG to fight ISIS and later worked in the economic committee of northern Syria. He founded AssangeDAO, which raised $55 million to support Julian Assange. He currently leads @DarkFiSquad, a blockchain focused on anonymity, with the first fully anonymous DAO, private P2P chat, and anonymous DEX. He is an expert in cryptography, mathematics and 3D design.

LABITCONF, conference on Bitcoin in Argentina.

Amir was excited to participate in the Latin American Bitcoin conference, having made the following comments in a personal conversation with me:

…I like Argentina and Latin America, I have many friends there. There’s a cool anarchist hacking vibe.

Amir Taaki, cryptographer, cypherpunk and Bitcoin pioneer.

Many of us were waiting for his talk on Saturday, November 8 at the conference. The talk was titled: “Agora! Anarchy! Action! Anon DAOs, Markets and Leaks: Lunarpunk and the Dark Side of the Cycle” (Agora! anarchy! action! Anonymous DAOs, markets and leaks: lunarpunk and the dark side of the cycle). As the time of the talk approached, We noticed that it had disappeared from the schedule.

When consulting with Amir, he told us that he had been prevented from entering Argentina under the pretext of “founded suspicion,” without further explanation. The document delivered to Amir by the Argentine State does not explain what the suspicion is or what the basis is. His admission was rejected only once and not permanently, according to the text.

According to Amir himself, he has been experiencing acts of institutional harassment in various countries to which he has traveled recently. In his words:

There is something in the system that is targeting me, but no one tells me what country it comes from. We need to find out what country it comes from and what exactly it is so my lawyers can contest it. We have no idea what it is related to and it started recently. I’m more interested in finding out what’s going on than getting into Argentina. I need information so my lawyers can challenge this. Why is this happening?

Amir had already been denouncing similar events in different parts of the world. In that sense, It would seem that Argentina joins a list of countries that they are following orders to prevent Amir from carrying out his activities normally.

It is worth remembering at this point that the Administrator of the Argentine National State is the president of the Argentine Nation. That this position gives him the characteristic of being a hierarchical superior and, therefore, responsible for the administrative activity generated by the subordinate officials who dictated the administrative act, which curtailed the exhibitor’s freedom of movement.

Likewise, this figure is technically, legally, materially and politically who has the final decision on the possibility of rejecting or authorizing the entry of people into the country in a case like this.

Above all, it is particularly notable that the current president came to that position after having been democratically elected by a majority of voters who applauded his political proposals, based on libertarian anarcho-capitalist principles.

Principles that clearly defend freedom of expression and movement more vigorously than any other alternative ideology. Both the president of the nation, his supporters, the Argentine crypto community and all of us who defend freedom of expression and digital privacy should at least question and investigate this more than apparent political persecution of one of our greatest activists.

We point out again that Amir Taaki helped finance the legal defense of Julian Assange, who finally managed to achieve his freedom. Today it is Amir who is suffering institutional harassment and we cannot turn our backs on him.
