The succession of Tim Cook at the head of Apple is going to be one of the most important movements that could occur in the coming months.

Until now there had been speculation that the replacement would come from within, pointing to the current senior vice president of hardware engineering as a possible replacement. However, in the last few hours an unexpected name has begun to appear.

According to The Information, Apple would be considering a former employee to assume leadership.

The name that gains strength is Tony Fadellthe former Apple hardware executive who was involved in the creation of the iPod. Fadell, 56, would have told people around him that he would be willing to replace Tim Cook if the company proposed it.

However, the report clarifies that the figure of Fadell generates divided opinions within Apple. During his time in the company he was considered a “polarizing” profile, something that could complicate his candidacy in a succession process that will require a certain internal consensus.

It is worth remembering that Tony Fadell left Apple at the end of 2008 and, since then, has promoted various projects in the technology sector.

Although the most recent information ensures that Tim Cook’s departure is not imminent, The Information highlights some changes in his personal life that could be interpreted as signs of a possible transition. Among them, he no longer maintains his strict routine of starting the day at the gym or his acquisition of a luxury home on the outskirts of Palm Springs.

Added to this is that, given his age, some managers believe that Cook is not reacting quickly enough to key challenges, such as the rise of artificial intelligence. This supposed slowness in decision-making would have fueled the voices calling for a change in leadership.
