Hashtag, streaming, GIF or login, among the new words added to the RAE dictionary

The Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) today presented the electronic version 23.8.1 of the Dictionary of the Spanish Language. This is the digital version of the 24th edition that will go on sale in paper in 2026.

The dictionary update adds 330 new featuresfrom new words to new meanings of already known words. There are a few new tech wordsamong them many Anglicisms, such as gif, hashtag, mailing, smartphone y streamingwhich are added to the Dictionary of the Spanish Language.

The new technological words of the RAE

Finally, a Smartphone It is a “smart phone”, and Streaming refers to “the continuous transfer of data over the Internet that allows a user to access live or delayed audiovisual transmissions, without having to previously download the content to the device.”
