Gold surpasses $4,500 per ounce in its best year since 1979

The price of spot gold has continued its upward trend during the morning of this Wednesday, exceeding for the first time in its history the threshold of $4,500 per ounce. This milestone marks an exceptional year for the precious metal, as it is set to be the best since 1979with an accumulated revaluation that exceeds the 70% in the year 2025.

The prospects of further reductions in interest rates in the United States, along with persistent geopolitical instability, have been the main drivers behind this increase in the price of gold. Today, the spot gold price reached a high of $4,525.96reflecting an increase in 0,9% compared to the previous closure. So far this year, the price of gold has experienced an increase of 72,5%.

In addition to gold, Silver has also shown notable performance in the market. Today, the price of silver has accelerated its ‘rally’ with an increase in 2,3% with respect to the previous session, reaching a new record of $72,750 per ounce. Over the course of the year 2025the price of silver has accumulated an increase of 149%.

On the other hand, Platinum futures experience an increase in 4,7% early in the morning, reaching an intraday high of $2,394.75. The revaluation of this metal so far this year is around 163%.

In addition to gold purchases by central banks, the expectation of further interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve in 2026 has impacted the price of the dollar against other major currencies. This scenario has made the purchase of gold cheaper for non-US investors, thus contributing to the boost in demand for the metal as a safe haven asset.
