Nvidia announced last year its intention to invest $100 billion in OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, with the intention of closing the deal in the following weeks, but the final plans were never finalized.

The relationship between Nvidia and OpenAI seemed to have distanced itself after it was recently learned that Sam Altman’s company has begun negotiating with other suppliers of AI processors, with the intention of improving the performance of its tools such as ChatGPT itself.

This has led to many rumors that the initial agreement for Nvidia to invest a million dollars in the American startup could have been interrupted.

However, The alliance between Nvidia and OpenAI continues, as confirmed by the CEO of the former, Jensen Huangwho described the rumors as «nonsense» during a visit to Taipei on Tuesday, as reported by the international press.

Nvidia’s top executive believes that OpenAI is «one of the most important companies of our time» for its work in the artificial intelligence industry and has confirmed that Nvidia will «definitely participate» in Sam Altman’s next round of financing.

Jensen Huang has also commented that his company «will invest a lot of money» in OpenAI, which he also considers «a good investment.»

The final investment could be less

Despite the repeated defense that the agreement between OpenAI and Nvidia stands, None of the companies has reconfirmed the figure that was initially given of 100,000 million dollars.s.

This suggests that, although negotiations between the two companies are surely still underway, the final amount will be different from the one mentioned, probably lower.

In a statement shared with The Wall Street JournalOpenAI has confirmed that the two companies are “actively working on the details of the partnership.”

«Nvidia has supported our advancements from the beginning, powers our systems today, and will continue to be instrumental. as we expand on what is to come,» Sam Altman’s team added.
