During an interview with Lex Fridman, Huang was blunt: “I think we’ve achieved AGI.” The statement, made bluntly, had a strong impact, where there is no consensus on what is really considered general intelligence.
At AGI It is usually defined as a system capable of matching or surpassing human intelligence in general tasks. In this case, the conversation started with a specific definition: an AI capable of doing a person’s job, including creating and managing a successful technology company valued at more than $1 billion.
When asked about the deadline, Huang did not hesitate: “I think it is now.” However, he introduced a key nuance: “You have said a billion and you have not said forever,” suggesting that his interpretation of AGI could refer to one-time achievements rather than sustained intelligence comparable to human.

Regarding the current use of artificial intelligence, he acknowledged certain limits: “A lot of people use it for a couple of months and then they turn off.” Furthermore, he was blunt about the real scope of these systems: “The chances of 100,000 of these agents building Nvidia are zero percent.”
In parallel, Huang has also criticized professionals who do not make the most of these tools. In another intervention, he warned: “If that $500,000 engineer doesn’t consume at least $250,000 in tokens, I’m going to be deeply alarmed.”
Additionally, he explained how Nvidia is integrating these resources into its internal strategy: «They’re going to make several hundred thousand dollars a year, their base salary. I’m going to give them probably half of that extra in tokens so they can amplify themselves 10 times.»
