Today several media outlets leak two ERE’s Amazon Spain in the corporate areas of Madrid and Barcelona, which will end with the dismissal of up to 1,200 workers. The information is leaked by the employees themselves, since Amazon has not yet issued an official statement. Jeff Bezos’ company has 28,000 workers in Spain.

The company announced a couple of days ago the layoff of 14,000 employees in the United Statesin what seemed like local decisions. But now we see that the layoffs are global.

This workforce reduction coincides with the announcement of record company profitswhich in the third quarter of 2025 has earned 21,187 million dollars (18,213 million euros), which represents an improvement of 38.2% compared to last year.

Who is affected by the layoffs at Amazon Spain?

This quarter it has earned 154,879 million euros, 13.4% more than in the same period last year. This is what the big technology companies have, which They break income and profit records, and on the same day they lay off thousands of workers. Even if they haven’t done anything wrong.

As reported by the Chain Being, The ERE of Amazon Spain focus on Amazon Digital Spain, whose offices are in Madrid, and Amazon Spain Service, in Barcelona.

These are corporate (office) positions, so they do not affect warehouse employees, delivery drivers, etc.

The 14,000 layoffs in the United States are also corporate. So, surely, the cause is the same: artificial intelligence.

This is what Beth Galetti, senior vice president of Human Experience and Technology at Amazon, had to say about it: “The current generation of AI is the most transformative technology we have seen since the Internet, and it is allowing companies to innovate much faster than ever before (both in existing market segments and in completely new ones).”

And he continues: “We are convinced that we need a more agile organization, with fewer hierarchical levels and more responsibility, to be able to act as quickly as possible for the benefit of our clients and our business.”

In short, it is about throwing out all the sections that do not smell like AI, and restructure to focus everything on AI.

Amazon offers laid-off employees 90 days to find another position within the company, giving them priority over external ones. But, logically, there are not as many job offers as there are layoffs, so most will have to leave Amazon.
