Google is working on a significant improvement within Android 16 that will make app updates much faster and less annoying for users.

This new feature, called “seamless app updates,” Dramatically reduces the time an app freezes while installing an update.

Until now, every time the user updated an application, the system had to temporarily block it to prevent it from running while its files were modified. This process could take several seconds, making some apps unusable during that period.

Con Android 16, that time is reduced from several seconds to just a few thousandthsmaking the process feel practically instantaneous.

The secret behind this improvement lies in the way the system executes its optimization processes, allowing applications to open and work faster and more efficiently.

In previous versions, these optimization tasks were performed just when the app was frozen, which increased downtime. With Android 16, Google has modified the execution time of these processes, moving them to an earlier phase of the installation.

This way, when it is time to replace the old files with the new ones, the system only needs to pause the application for a minimum of a moment.

This is an important quality of life improvement for users, especially now that the Play Store allows simultaneous updates.
