Bitcoin is the new indigenous tool in Colombia

In a pioneer initiative, Bitcoin education (BTC) begins to reach the indigenous communities of Colombia. The project, led by PayStand and my first Bitcoin organizations, aims to empower these populations through the teaching of technology and economic opportunities offered by the digital currency.

The experience started with a first workshop in the IKA or Arhuaco town that inhabit the western slope of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, where 60 people were formed on BTC.

This inaugural workshop served as a starting point for a much larger scale project. This movement seeks to potentially impact more than 30,000 people belonging to various indigenous communities throughout the country, as pointed out by the educator of my first Bitcoin Gabriel Palma, during an exclusive interview with cryptootics.

These community leaders now They dominate the management of their own Bitcoin walletsThey send transactions directly and make their local currency to BTC without intermediaries.

Bitcoin’s accelerated adoption in these communities reinforces the conclusions of a 2024 Paystand.org report, which underlined the global challenge of 1,400 million people without access to basic banking services. The report highlights Bitcoin circular economies as transformative solutions, which foster financial independence and sustainable economic growth.

The document includes the example of El Salvador, where small businesses accept Bitcoin, and Argentina, with a market -based market. In both countries, since 2020, the called Ciudadlas de Bitcoin grows, where transactions are made, save and invest without the need for traditional banking intermediaries, addressing systemic financial barriers.

As detailed by the Paystand.org organization, its objective is to boost financial inclusion through three pillars:

1. Promote Bitcoin’s technological adoption for daily transactions.
2. Offer accessible education about bitcoin and finance.
3. Create opportunities for unattended groups.

In 2024, the organization tripled the financing for sub -overturned communities, investing more than $ 200,000 globally. It highlights an investment of $ 84,000 in «My first bitcoin», which developed open source materials and reached the training of 2,500 students and 400 educators.

In Latin America, other organizations such as the NGO Motiv that is carrying Bitcoin education to the populated center of Huayllapata, where a Quechua women association is transforming its life by adopting the currency created by Satoshi Nakamoto.

The same way, Bitcoin is reaching the indigenous peoples of Guatemala. In 2023, Patrick Melder, then Bitcoin Lake leader, told cryptonoticies that the inhabitants of Panajachel and their surroundings are learning «all about Bitcoin technology.»
