In an ecosystem where the centralization of Bitcoin mining pools represents a latent, but always present, the 256 Foundation (@256foundation in x) is building Hydra Pool. The mission of the 256 Foundation is «dismantling the Empire of Owner Mining for Bitcoin and Freedom Technology to be accessible to all.»

Hydra Pool is an open source project with an GPL free software license (General Public License, or «general public license» in Spanish) that guarantees users to use, study, share and modify this mining pools protocol. It seeks to empower miners with an agile and accessible development tool, whose purpose is to offer an alternative To deviate quickly Hashrate from Red de Bitcoin «With a single click» (or the least possible) in critical situations, such as government pressures.

In other words, Hydra Pool pretend to function as an escape valve for Bitcoin’s hashrat.

In summary, the Hydra Pool project is designed to be the predetermined pool server that is executed in the Ember One Mining System. It offers an open source bitcoin mining pool software, compatible with multiple operating systems (multi-os) and with implementation in one click, with support for complete nodes and Stratum V1/V2. The basic idea is to reduce entry barriers to create a Bitcoin mining pool. The objective of the implementation in a single click is that the software is the easiest to use possible.

Next, the current documentation of this Pools protocol proceeds to explain what it is for: “For example, if a user wishes to self -bealo or rent a VPS (virtual private server), Hydra Pool download, configures some parameters with the help of an assistant and obtains a fully functional mining pool server that can share with his colleagues (…). This project would guarantee that, in case, in case, in case, in case, in case, in case, in case, in case, in case, in case, in case, in case, in case Bitcoin are victims of authoritarian regimes, anyone can quickly create alternative pools. ”

Hydra Pool is being created for Bitcoin’s defense

The project, described on the Hydra Pool.org website, identifies specific scenarios where its implementation of this mining pools protocol would be crucial.

Among them are the possible demands of authoritarian governments that seek impose Identification Requirements (KYC) to the Users of the Pools; Force the censorship of transactions related to lists of sanctions such as those of the ofac or force the pools to leave orphans blocks that contain unwanted transactions according to arbitrary criteria.

For cases, Hydra Pool is presented as an immediate resource so that miners can reorganize and maintain the integrity of the Bitcoin network. The name of the project is inspired by the Hidra de Lerna, the mythological monster of multiple heads that regenerated what lost. This mythological analogy reflects other characteristics of Hydra Pool: it is a system designed in its design to be resilient, capable of adapting and multiplying against any attempt at external control or repression.

As the official Hydra Pool site points out, «if anyone can start a mining pool in their Ember One system, with a self -hosted computer or a VPS using this open source project, operators may regroup their resources faster, and the pressure on the necessary resources to sustain misalieted demands will grow exponentially.»

In other words, Hydra Pool seeks to expand the ability to create mining pools in a short timewhich allows an immediate collective response from the Bitcoin Mining Community. This protocol will be open source software that any miner can implement, potentially reducing the dependence of large centralized pools and strengthening the network against unique failure points.

At the time of the wording, Hydra Pool is in an initial phase of the project, although a specific budget is not detailed, the site mentions that the project is financed exclusively through donations through a payment route with Bitcoin called Zaprite and Paynym, with a payment code.

For security reasons, says the Hydra Pool website «The exact amounts in dollars remain confidential», in reference to donations. Then, it is clarified that the project budget covers a fair maintenance for a project manager and for materials, travel and maintenance expenses of one to four engineers for twelve months. «The funds are disbursed monthly in equal quantities,» they say from the project.

The Hydra Pool team emphasizes that there are no monetization plans with its project, which is understood as a commitment to the mission of protecting the decentralization of Bitcoin mining. With this, there are already several projects that are dedicated to protecting the decentralization of Bitcoin mining.

Some do it through negotiation of miners’ work, such as DMND. Ocean, through the free selection of block templates. Hydra Pool, meanwhile, offers a piece that was missing: a protocol to create mining pools on the fly.

As Cryptonotics reported, the 256 Foundation «discovered» a new case of use for mining. The proof of this lies in Block 881,423 of Bitcoin, where the non -profit foundation used the hashrate of other miners in a collaborative pool as financing.
