Chinese drones already have the capacity to attack United States territories: New York, Washington or Philadelphia in their sights

Let’s forget the geographical security that the two great oceans have always guaranteed to the United States. And now physical distance is no longer an effective defensive barrier for military powers.

This is because China has just demonstrated that it can negate this strategic advantage not with a larger missile, but with artificial intelligence. According to the media South China Morning Postscientists linked to the Chinese army have successfully completed the first fully autonomous in-flight refueling test between two drones.

This means that its unmanned aircraft no longer have a fuel limit, theoretically putting the US East Coast within range of a kamikaze drone attack.

A new system that endangers the US

Until now, logistics imposed a glass ceiling, where the Jiu Tian heavy drone, the jewel in the crown of Beijing’s unmanned arsenal, had an operational range of about 7,000 kilometers.

It was enough to intimidate in the South China Sea, Taiwan or the bases in Guam, but insufficient to cross the Pacific and return. But new autonomous refueling technology changes the mathematics of the conflict.

By being able to receive fuel in the air without human intervention, the Jiu Tian doubles its radius of action. Suddenly, cities like Washington, New York or Philadelphia enter the map of operations.

With this new innovation, China has completely transformed a regional control tool into a global strategic asset capable of projecting its military force to the other side of the planet.

Artificial intelligence in control

What the engineers at Northwestern Polytechnic University have achieved is a feat. Refueling in flight is one of the most delicate maneuvers, even for expert pilots; Doing it with robots required a technological leap.

The system uses near-infrared (NIR) vision and deep learning algorithms to guide the fuel probe to the mothership basket. All of the above is done with millimeter precision.

Testing has demonstrated a success rate of over 99%, even in hostile conditions where sensors would fail, such as the sun glaring into the cameras, smoke, or simulated damage to the structure.

It is important to mention that the «machine» locates, docks and refuels at high speed without anyone touching a button from the ground. Therefore, it is one of China’s most significant and advanced inventions.

200 kamikaze drones in the air

The real danger is not just that the drone arrives, but what it brings with it. The Jiu Tian is not a simple surveillance aircraft; functions as a mothership designed to unleash a swarm of up to 200 kamikaze drones or tactical missiles.

For American air defenses, this is a nightmare. The Pentagon’s protection system is designed primarily to detect and shoot down intercontinental ballistic missiles or heavy bombers, not to manage a massive cloud of small, deadly robots flying at low altitude.

Saturating enemy defenses with a swarm of drones launched from the American coast is a capability that forces defense manuals to be rewritten, and the US government must do so as soon as possible.

We are entering the new technological Cold War

This development is not just a test; It’s a message. He Zhibin, a key figure in the Chinese space program, has not hesitated to describe this system as «a sword pointed at the throat of its rivals», in clear reference to the United States.

Deterrence has changed radically, so the next great aerial threat will not need pilots, will not have to land to refuel, and will not respect the safety distances that defined the geopolitics of the 20th century. It will be something more dangerous and effective.
