On September 15, the team behind the base, the network created by Exchange Coinbase, announced the development of a bridge that will interact users and developers of that chain with Solana.
The initiative seeks Enable direct connections between both ecosystemsexpanding the scope of applications and tokens that work in these networks.
Jesse Pollak, creator and base developer, a second layer (L2) network of Ethereum, explained during the Basecamp 2025 event that the bridge was designed thinking about developers.
As indicated, the objective is that the elaboration of applications can be made of fluid way between base and Solana.
Pollak explained that the system will allow three actions:
- Use token sun inside applications based.
- Import solana tokens to base applications.
- Create tokens based to export them to the Solana ecosystem.
The possibility of using sun in applications built on the basis could encourage Solana developers to expand their projects to this environment.
Both, Import Base Solana Tokens Open the door to a greater degree of shared liquidity between both networks.
Additionally, the option to create tokens based and then transfer them to the Solana ecosystem reflects an attempt to build bidirectional links that allow projects deploy in both environments No technical barriers.
And bridge o Bridge is a protocol that facilitates interoperability between different chains. These tools allow to move digital assets or information from one network to another, preventing users from having to depend on centralized intermediaries to transfer value.
In this case, it seeks to integrate two ecosystems that work with different standards: on the one hand, ERC-20 tokens that operate in Ethereum and Base, and on the other, tokens SPL, Native of Solana.
At the moment, the bridge is being tested in the testnet Solana Devnet and Base sepolia to verify operation and safety before a definitive launch.
From Base they think about the creation of a native token
In addition to the bridge to Solana, the base team communicated that it is exploring the possibility of launching a native token for your network.
As reported, it is an early stage of analysis, without concrete definitions about the design, the governance model or the implementation deadlines.
The intention is to advance in this process in an open way and with the participation of users, ensuring that any future decision is built together with the community.
