Dow Jones, to be saved in extremis November; the futures, stopped by a technical problem

The DOW JONES index rises 0.19% to 47,515.65 points. Leading the advances is JPMorgan Chase, with an advance of 0.76%, while Salesforce rises 0.73%. In red, NVIDIA drops 0.83% and Amgen drops 0.31%.

The S&P 500 advanced 0.15%, to 6,822.66 points, and the Nasdaq gained 0.30%, to 23,285.26 points.

The negotiation during Much of the pre-opening has been almost blind due to the interruption of service at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME).which has halted live trading of futures and options in several markets, including bonds, stocks and commodities. “Due to a cooling issue in CyrusOne’s data centers, our markets are currently suspended,” CME said in a notice posted on its website.

It must be taken into account that today (Black Friday) Wall Street will close earlier than usual (1:00 p.m. ET).

Yesterday the market was closed for Thanksgiving, while last Wednesday’s day was positive for Wall Street: the DOW JONES rose 0.67%, compared to the 0.69% that the S&P 500 recorded and the 0.82% that the technology rose. Nasdaq. Wall Street has added four consecutive positive sessions in the heat of expectations that the Fed will lower interest rates at its next meeting on December 9 and 10. In just one week, operators have raised the probability of a 25 percentage point rate cut at this meeting from 30% to 85%.

In fact, the three big indices are heading for their best week since the end of June. The S&P 500 is up more than 3% so far this week, while the Nasdaq and the DOW JONES are up more than 4% and 2% in the weekly period, respectively.

However, November has been a difficult month for stocks. While all three indicators have trimmed monthly losses with this week’s gains, all are headed for a negative month as concerns about high valuations in AI stocks have slowed market momentum.

The technological Nasdaq It has been the most penalized in the month, with a drop of more than 2% that makes it very difficult for it to be reversed in tomorrow’s half-day. The S&P 500 is down a modest 0.40%. The DOW JONES, which reached a historical maximum of 48,254.82 points at the close of November 12 (48,431.57 intraday), accumulated a fall of 0.28% in the month.

In the business field, the big name in the market in November has been Alphabet, setting new historical highs almost day after day in the heat of information that suggests that Meta is considering using artificial intelligence chips designed by Google. Morgan Stanley believes it is “not unreasonable” to suggest that by 2027, Alphabet could be shipping between 500,000 and 1,000,000 of its TPUs, or custom chips known as tensor processing units, according to a note to clients.

The figure is notable because Alphabet designed the chips for internal use, but its success with them, coupled with a global shortage of greater processing power, has sparked external interest. In the artificial intelligence chip market, NVIDIA has a market share of approximately 90%, according to data from third parties in the sector.

NVIDIA shares have fallen 10% in the last month, while Alphabet shares have risen 19.3% in the same period.

Today the retail sector also attracts special attention, given that Black Friday kicks off the Christmas shopping season. At the moment, Walmart is moving with advances of 0.4%, while Target is up 1.05% and Macy’s is down a slight 0.2%.

In commodity markets, oil prices are little changed as investors remain focused on peace talks between Russia and Ukraine and the outcome of the OPEC+ meeting on Sunday for clues to possible changes in a supply that has weighed on prices. European benchmark Brent oil falls 0.33% to $62.66 per barrel. Oil Futures, on the other hand, rose 0.51% to $58.95.

The euro fell 0.20% against the dollar, leaving the exchange rate at 1.1576 dollars for each single currency.
