The American pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly & CO has announced the acquisition of the « genetic edition of Verve Therapeutics for an amount that could reach 1.3 billion dollars (1,125 million euros). This operation has as its main objective to the experimental therapy developed by Verve Therapeutics to prevent the accumulation of plates in the arteries.
Eli Lilly will disburse up to $ 13.50 (11.68 euros) per share of Verve Therapeutics. Of this amount, 10.50 dollars (9.08 euros) will be paid in cash, while the remaining 3 dollars (2.60 euros) will be a right of non -negotiable contingent value. The acquisition process is expected to be completed during the third quarter of 2025.
The Vice President of Research and Development in Diabetes and Metabology of Eli Lilly, Ruth Gimeno, highlighted the potential of verve-102 therapy as a possible revolution in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. According to Gimeno, this genetic edition therapy ‘in vivo’ could change the current approach of chronic care to a unique treatment for a large number of patients.
For his part, Sekar Kathiresan, co -founder and CEO of Verve Therapeutics, has expressed his confidence in collaboration with Eli Lilly. Kathiresan has affirmed that the shared vision and global research, clinical, regulatory and commercial capabilities of Eli Lilly will accelerate the development of Verve Therapeutics drugs.
