Justin Drake, member of the Ethereum Foundation and developer of the protocol, has officially declared post-quantum security as a strategic priority. To this end, it implements a short and medium-term plan.
This is an initiative that not only responds to a technical need, but rather seeks to consolidate user trust in the Ethereum infrastructure.
«We have formed a new post-quantum (PQ) team, led by Thomas Coratger. He is joined by Emile, one of the world-class talents behind leanVM. LeanVM is the cryptographic cornerstone of our entire post-quantum strategy,” said the researcher in a message on X.
The urgency of these measures is based on the acceleration of quantum technological development that has been observed in recent months, as Drake points out.

Security is now a strategic priority

In this way, the agenda will focus in which the network remains secure and that users are not affected. This will include dedicated cryptographic tools within the protocol, account abstraction paths, and long-term work on transaction signature aggregation using LeanVM.
Additionally, to encourage the development of research that contributes to the improvement of these systems, a prize of 1 million dollars was announced for anyone who improves or strengthens the security of Poseidon, a hash function widely used in zk-SNARKs and zk-rollups, especially in zero-knowledge proofs.
The main goal of this entire process is to ensure that technological migration is transparent for market participants.
A full breakdown of the PQ strategy proposed by the Ethereum Foundation will be shared soon on its specialized portal. It signs up to a complete transition in the coming years, avoiding loss of funds or downtimeguaranteeing the integrity of each digital currency stored on the network, Drake said.
The way is opening to “quantum resistance”
