Members of the investigations and compliance team at Binance, the largest bitcoin (BTC) and cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, were removed from the company after reporting findings about the use of the platform to evade international sanctions against Iran. This according to a report published by the American media Fortune.
The company’s internal investigators have reportedly collected evidence that Iran-related entities received more than $1 billion in cryptocurrencies through the Binance platform. This between March 2024 and August 2025.
This capital flow would represent a possible violation of sanctions regulations imposed by international organizations and Western governments against the Persian country, as determined by analysts.
According to the documents seen by that medium, the financial operation did not directly involve bitcoin, but rather the transactions were mainly routed using the USD Tether (USDT) stablecoin on the Tron network. This infrastructure would have allowed the movement of funds in a sustained manner before being detected by Binance researchers.
After the presentation of these internal reports, At least five researchers would have been fired by the end of 2025. As reported by Fortune, on condition of anonymity, three of these specialists had previous experience in police forces in Europe and Asia. In addition, they held leadership positions in special financial investigations and countering the financing of terrorism divisions.
In addition to these layoffs, it was reported that at least four senior officials in the compliance department have left the company or they would have been displaced from their duties in the last three months.
The exact reasons for the disincorporations have not been officially confirmed by the company. NoticiasVE sent an email to Binance to verify these reports, but at the time of going to press there were no responses.
This development occurs in a context of high regulatory pressure for the company, which previously pledged to strengthen its monitoring systems after facing historic fines and settlements with the United States Department of Justice.
Likewise, the alleged dismissal of these analysts comes to light at a time when Binance faces scrutiny from some users. NoticiasVE has reported that they have accused the exchange and its founder, Changpeng Zhao, of allegedly defrauding investors and manipulating the market. And they have come out to defend themselves, ensuring that there is a FUD campaign.
