If you are a fan of fontsor you want to use one of the most modern, readable and adaptable ones that exist, Google finally offers its Google Sans Flex font free for everyone.
Released in 2023, Sundar Pichai’s company defined it as “the next generation of the Google brand typography.” And so it has been: since then Google uses it in all its appsas well as in some parts of the menus and messages of your Pixel phones.
Until now, it could only be used by developers through an API. More than 600 websites use it as a base font. Starting today, anyone can download it and use it in their projects, or for writing.
The advantages of Google Sans Flex
Since it was not free, there are many imitations, but with slight variations to avoid Google’s complaint.
Google Sans Flexalso called G S Flexstands out because it is a very versatile font, as its name indicates. You can create very different fonts depending on whether it stretches, reduces or increases its size, as seen in the opening photo of the news.
It is what is known as variable font under the standard OpenType Fontwhich can change shape and orientation as desired by the user. The standard was created in 2016, as an evolution of fixed typefaces that only allow static, defined variations, such as italics or bold.
As Google says, with variable typefaces, “any user can become a typographer” since you can create your personalized version of the font.
He has even trained Gemini to know how to work with Google Sans Flex, when you ask him to help you create a website, or a design.
Two years after its launch, Google’s official font, called GS Flex, is now free to download for everyone. It is available on its official website.
It adopts the Open Font License, which basically means you can use it for whatever you want.
