Besides, In Spain we are very specialized in coffee. Yes, cut long, yes with milk, but cold and oatmeal, for me without foam, I want a decaffeinated sachet with water and cut with milk, tempered stained, but without sugar and with saccharin, double long with ice in a large glass, etc.

In short, in Spain we take, on average 1.06 coffees a day over there. One thing to be thankful for is that the cost of this coffee, while not low, is not the highest. Only Slovenia, Italy, Brazil, Portugal and Croatia have the cheapest coffees. Therefore, when we see the cost of the coffees we drink throughout our lives, the cost is quite low.

Now, just because it is a low cost compared to other countries, does not mean that it is a low figure. Even more so when we have talked about averages. I, for example, am one of those who pushes that average upwards. And my cost is higher, of course. We talk about a average cost of just over 46 thousand euros.

With a simple calculation, I have calculated the difference in what those coffees would cost us at home. Throughout our lives we could save more than 43 thousand euros. It’s not much, I insist. Especially when we see what they would save in other countries. To be fair, it would probably cost other countries a little more than us to make our coffee at home. But for the Spanish case it works for us, which is the one for which I have calculated the costs.

43 thousand euros is not much. Until you decide to see it from an investment perspective. That equivalentroughly speaking (taking into account vacation periods) to about 150 euros per month for 30 years.

And we invest that difference of 43 thousand euros (the 46 thousand euros less what it costs us at home, that is, the savings) distributed in 150 euros for 30 years, we could simply obtain having indexed ourselves to the S&P 500, half a million euros. As I say, it is not to make us poor, but it is not to make us ugly.

I will continue to enjoy my coffees, but I will save some from time to time to drink at home. Because by investing those small amounts, 500 thousand euros can wait for me in the long term.
