  • Fraud used group pressure and false coinbase offers to manipulate a legitimate donation.

  • The victim urges to combat shame sharing experiences to prevent future scams.

Erik Bergman, co -founder of an Igaming organization that donates 100% of its benefits to environmental beneficial organizations, reveals a devastating scam of 1.25 million dollars in cryptocurrencies, becoming a victim of an elaborate deception that exploded its interest in digital assets.

The investor, who claims to have previously donated 1 million dollars to the Team Water campaign of the YouTuber Mrbeast, was later attracted to a false WhatsApp chat with alleged billionaires and celebrities, believing to participate in a secret and lucrative investment in a new coinbase cryptocurrency. The incident underlines the sophistication of scams that manipulate confidence and group pressure.

In his message posted in X, Bergman emphasizes that the first collection call was authentic, but the scammers subsequently intercepted communication, invited him to a trip to Africa and join a WhatsApp group.

In the chat, people who went through billionaires, They pretended to invest in an exclusive presale of a cryptocurrency of coinbase, generating intense pressure and fomo (fear of missing something), according to what is narrated by Bergman.

The victim, distracted and looking to fit, sent $ 500,000 in the first round and another $ 750,000 in the second. Then, it was a call of a last investment opportunity, with an already high price, which aroused its suspicions.

He admitted to having broken his decision principles: «The 13 -year -old boy inside wanted to belong.»

A tiny detail, that is, a British telephone number for an alleged American, finally detonated his internal alarm. And then, a direct call to the true MRBAST unmasked the farce, revealing that all the chat, the personalities and the trip to Africa were false.

After realizing that it was scammed, Bergman now faces a mixture of shame, repentance and anger, although, even so, he chose to share his history publicly. This act, promoted by the conviction that shame only thrives into the dark, transforms experience into a warning against manipulation and the importance of verificationdespite the emotional impact.

«Shame can only live in the shadows. Tell people about your shame and promise you that your feeling will change, ”said the victim in his story.

In this way it was shown that Bergman paid a high price to learn that digital crime evolves at a dizzying speed, attacking on two main fronts. On the one hand, there are the mega-hackeos to centralized services, while on the other, there is a growing assault on individual users, as cryptootics recently reported.

To avoid falling into scams with cryptocurrencies there are some key recommendations, such as:

  • Verify identities: Always be able to contact the person or organization with which communication is made through official and verified channels, not by unexpected messages or calls. A famous or a real company will never ask you for money privately and urgently.
  • Distrust of urgency and exclusivity: offers that require «fast» or «secret» are an alert sign. Legitimate investments are rarely so hurried.
  • Thoroughly investigate: before any investment, investigate cryptocurrencies, platform and promoters. If a company like Coinbase launches a new currency, it will publicly announce it in its official channels, not in private chats.
  • Be careful with group pressure (FOMO): Do not get carried away by what others supposedly do in a group. Scammers create false profiles to simulate the interest of «large investors.»

There are other types of scams that vary from pyramidal schemes and cloned sites to false support teams, deceitful gifts in social networks and fraud in P2P exchanges. Even false platforms and purses imitate the legitimate ones, as Cryptonoticia explains in the article, how are Bitcoin’s scams and how to avoid them?
