Nvidia is in the center of a long-distance race to lead the world in the field of artificial intelligence, with China and the United States as the main global players.

Although Nvidia’s situation in China is somewhat complicated, with a scenario of commercial instability, since The Asian giant decided in September not to use chips manufactured by the company led by Jensen Huang.

In a recent interview with Financial Timesthe CEO of Nvidia has assured that, if things do not change, «China is going to win the artificial intelligence race», so global collaboration is essential if we do not want to harm the development of the industry.

To ensure that the United States does not fall behind in this race, Huang has pointed out that It is essential that it be done with the main talent of the AI industry: the developers.

«As I have always said, China is nanoseconds behind America in artificial intelligence. It is vital that America wins by getting ahead and getting developers from all over the world for itself,» he added to this reflection.

In a context of international tension between China and the United States, however, this seems somewhat distant, since in the Nvidia CEO’s own words, approximately half of AI researchers around the globe are located in China.

Something that the country has demonstrated with the launch of different open source natural language models: practically all LLMs of this type originate in China.

«The vast majority of open source models that lead the market have been created in China,» Huang stressed.

In any case, the CEO of Nvidia considers that it is essential that global development in artificial intelligence be carried out in the company’s own systems, and only that can bring the United States closer to victory in this race.

It’s no secret that Huang has repeatedly supported the United States in this crude battle in the sector, as he already did during an Nvidia developers conference last month, according to Reuters.

«We want America to win the AI race. We have no doubt,» Huang said at the time. «But we also need to be in China to win its developers. A policy that causes America to lose half of its developers in the world is not beneficial in the long term.»

In short, there are 2 great opposite poles competing in the race for AI, and Nvidia is right in the center, since it is a vital company for the future of capabilities, with its processors and data centers.

For now, everything will depend on the international relations maintained by both sides to ensure that the development of AI is not slowed down due to political issues.
