Chromium -based browsers such as Google Chrome, not always show precise colors when we are allowed to applications or websites capture our screen.

Luckily, Microsoft Now Chromium is migrating to WGC (Windows graphics capture), which will solve this problem of colors in Windows 11, although it will only reach the recent versions of the operating system.

To understand it, today when the screen is shared for example in applications such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams in the browser Chromeis called directly to getDisplayMedia () which allows applications to capture the screen but perhaps not with a series of original colors.

This is because Chrome still uses an ancient method called Dxgi duplicator which does not correctly manage the HDR color.

This makes the screen capture method perfect to determine the colors and color spaces on the screen, so an incorrect exit to the browser is sent.

Now with the 24h2 version of Windows 11, a new screen capture method is included that allows the browser to play colors correctly when sharing the screen.

This method is called WGC (Windows graphics capture) and has a better support for HDR screens including the new attribute that tells Chrome which part of the screen has changed.

From now on, Chrome will use WGC by defaultso it ensures better colors when sharing the screen, but not only that, but also at the time of a more efficient screenshot, video calls and general improvements in performance.

In any case, it is quite likely that Microsoft does not adapt this function to the previous versions of the Windows 11 operating system, so it will have to update.
