Microsoft has presented a new artificial intelligence model, designed as a computer usage agent and capable of performing complex tasks directly on the user’s device.

By name Fara-7Bthis model seeks to compete with advanced systems such as GPT-4o, but with a focus on privacy and local execution.

The company has decided to advance in the research of autonomous agents, independently or through specific collaborations, and Fara-7B represents a strategic step in this new stage.

Con 7 billion parametersthe model is designed to work in relatively modest systems, reducing latency and ensuring that sensitive data does not leave the device.

Unlike other cloud-based agents, Fara-7B can manage corporate or personal workflows without depending on external servers.

Its operation replicates human interaction with digital interfaces: it interprets screenshots, identifies visual elements and predicts precise coordinates to execute actions such as clicks or keystrokes. This allows you to operate even on websites whose code is difficult to interpret.

In benchmark tests, Fara-7B achieved 73.5% performance on a standard for web agents, surpassing the 65% achieved by GPT-4o.

Microsoft clarifies that the model is in the experimental phase and is not yet generally available.

To reduce risks, Fara-7B includes a critical point detection system: when it identifies actions that involve personal data or sensitive decisionsstops and requests human approval before continuing, adding an extra layer of security.
