Gemini is about to receive an update that will significantly improve the multitasking experience on Android.
Until now, the Gemini overlay, accessible via voice command or a long press of the power button, forced users to remain within the interface until completing their query. That is, if another application was touched, this floating Gemini window disappeared and the interaction had to start from scratch, limiting productivity.
With the next beta version of the Google app on Android, it has been discovered a new behavior that allows users to interact with Gemini without getting locked into the overlay.
The system incorporates a floating button that keeps the session active, meaning you can navigate to another app while Gemini processes the request. Once the results are ready, the user receives a notification and can return to the overlay by simply tapping the floating button.
This functionality allows you to minimize the overlay without losing the Gemini session, keeping the conversation active and facilitating a later return to the same query. When finished, sliding the overlay will completely close the interaction.
This improvement It is ideal for users who use Gemini in parallel with other applications for workeducation or research, as it facilitates a more agile and continuous workflow.
Currently, this functionality is not yet publicly available and can only be tested in the preview version. We will have to wait for it to be included for everyone in the coming weeks, at which time it is expected to significantly optimize the multitasking experience on Android devices.
