Lockheed Martin, one of the largest aerospace companies in the world, has introduced a new drone called Nomadwhich stands out for its ability to take off and land vertically (like a helicopter), but with the speed and autonomy of an airplane.
The Nomad has been developed by Sikorskya division of Lockheed Martin known for manufacturing the famous Black Hawk helicopter. This new drone is designed to fulfill multiple functions, from military and rescue operations to humanitarian aid missions.
Its structure is modular and scalable, which allows it to be manufactured in different sizes depending on the mission. The smallest model, the Nomad 50has already successfully completed its first tests, while the company is preparing the launch of a larger version, which will make its first flight in the coming months.
The drone incorporates an advanced technology called Matrixdeveloped in collaboration with the American agency DARPA. Thanks to this system, The Nomad can fly completely autonomously: plan routes, avoid obstacles and execute missions without direct human intervention.

Depending on the model, The Nomad can carry from 25 kilos to more than 600using hybrid engines that reduce fuel consumption and extend the flight range. This makes it ideal for both the military and civilian organizations that need fast, versatile and easy-to-deploy devices.
According to Lockheed Martin, The drone is specially designed to operate in complex environments, such as island regions of the Pacific Oceanwhere takeoff and landing infrastructure is limited.
“We want a drone that can take off from anywhere and fulfill its mission, without depending on a runway,” the company explains.
With the Nomad, Lockheed Martin takes a new step in the evolution of autonomous drones, combining speed, artificial intelligence and versatility in a single system.
