Nvidia remains one of the most powerful companies in the world, but, due to bad timing what it went through at the beginning of the year, with a turbulent history of rises and falls on the stock market, it is logical that it wants to ally with other companies to continue having strength.

Now it is Oracle’s turn, a company with which it has joined forces as part of a historic collaboration that is summarized in the construction of an artificial intelligence supercomputer. And not just any, but the largest from the United States Department of Energy (DOE).

The name of the project is Solstice, which will have 10,000 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and will support the DOE’s mission to develop artificial intelligence capabilities and lead areas of the technology and its applications, such as the country’s security, science and energy.

Another system, Equinox, will include 10,0010 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and is expected to be available in the first half of 2026. This will be connected to Solstice via Nvidia networks and both will offer a combined AI performance of 2,200 exaflops.

AI for open science

These two supercomputers will be located at Argonne National Laboratory and will allow both scientists and researchers to develop and train new cutting-edge AI reasoning models for open science. To do this, they will use two Nvidia technologies.

On the one hand, the Nvidia Megatron-Core library and, on the other, Nvidia TensorRTa set of inference software that will allow these models to be scaled, as explained by Nvidia in a statement shared on its website.

Nvidia has also noted that both AI supercomputers will support research collaborations between Nvidia, Argonne and the Department of Energy, so they can advance the creation of scientific profiles with agentic capabilities.

«AI is the most powerful technology of our time and science is its greatest frontier,» said the founder and CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, who has described this proposal «as an engine of discovery in the United States.»

In his opinion, this, furthermore, will «drive progress in fields ranging from health research to materials science» and will serve as a foundation for “larger-scale collaboration in science, energy, and national security to deploy next-generation infrastructure.”

«Win the artificial intelligence race»

The United States Secretary of Energy has clarified that, with this alliance, the country seeks to position itself first in terms of innovation, trying to leave its rival in Asia, China, behind.

Both companies, of American origin, are focused on achieving a good title for the country with their work. Hence, Chris Wright, who is Secretary of Energy of the United States, has pointed out that «winning the AI race requires new and creative alliances that bring together the brightest minds and industries in technology.»

They have also not spared their praise for President Donald Trump, whom they have thanked for allowing them «deploy new computing capability faster than ever before and turning shared innovation into a national strength.»
