RAM is hijacked by AI companies, who have kept all of it for their data centers, so the little that is left has tripled in price. This makes scams multiply on Amazon. This is the case of a client who bought DDR5 memory, and it was actually camouflaged DDR4. Let’s see how to check the RAM you buy to detect fraud.

And attempted scam on Amazon returns serviceand a mistake by the company, which it makes often, has caused the one who is not to blame for anything, another customer, to swallow the attempted scam.

It’s not the first time it happens. Just a few days ago, an Amazon Spain customer bought DDR5 memory… And received DDR2 memory!, with a simple photocopy of paper instead of the heatsink.

Repeated failures in Amazon returns

A Reddit user says that he bought Corsair Vengeance DDR5 memory on Amazon, in the Refurbished Products section, but when he received it at home, he noticed something strange: the heatsink was somewhat loose. You tried installing the memory into your PC, but it didn’t fit.

The notch where the memory block is inserted into the motherboard was located in a different placeproof that it is DDR4 memory.

In both cases, it is a scam focused on Amazon’s returns service. Someone bought DDR5 memory, asked for a return, but returned their old DDR4 memory, installing the DDR5 memory heatsink. Amazon reviewed the product, deemed it good, and refunded the money. Free memory for the scammer.

Amazon’s failure is that put that memory back on sale without review, as a refurbished productsending it to another client. This is a problem because the client cannot justify that the scam was not done by him. Luckily, Amazon refunded the money, probably because it was a refurbished product.

When you purchase a hardware item on Amazon, record an unboxing videowhen you open it, to have proof of what you have received.

Next, install the hardware, and use an app like CPU-Z o Speccywhich show you a detailed list of your PC hardware. In the case of RAM, data such as type, speeds, latencies, etc. This way you will know if they have sent you what you bought.
