Opera Software and Celo Core Co. announced this March 19 a new commercial framework that, subject to approval by Celo’s community governance, contemplates the allocation of 160 million CELO tokens to the browser.

The goal is to transform Opera from distributor partner in a stakeholder network keyaligning your long-term incentives with the success of the ecosystem.

The proposal has already been sent to Celo’s governance forum, following its decentralized treasury model. According to the official statement, the three-year agreement replaces a previous cash scheme and reflects the maturity of an alliance that began in June 2021.

Since then, Opera’s MiniPay wallet—launched in September 2023—has driven mass adoption of stablecoins on mobile devices.

In December 2025, both companies extended their partnership with the goal of bringing financial inclusion to one billion people for 2030.

“The partnership with Opera has evolved significantly in almost five years and we are proud to take this next step together,” stated Rene Reinsberg, co-founder of Celo.

For his part, Jørgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera, highlighted that “Celo has been instrumental in building and scaling MiniPay” and that this alliance represents a long-term commitment to the ecosystem.

MiniPay operates in more than 66 countries, has more than 14 million account records and has processed more than 420 million transactions.

As NoticiasVE has reported in previous coverage, MiniPay already allows users in Argentina and Brazil to spend USDT directly in physical stores through QR codes and local integrations with PIX and Mercado Pago, facilitating real payments in emerging markets.

More than 50 million Opera browser users have accumulated rewards that can be redeemed as USDT within MiniPayrepresenting an immediate catalyst for growth.

As part of the plan, Opera and Celo will perform a roadshow in Latin America and Southeast Asia, starting in Vietnam and the Philippines next month, to drive adoption and the Mini Apps ecosystem.

About which Latin American countries will be visited in the roadshowboth parties did not offer details, although it is expected that the main cryptocurrency markets such as Argentina or Brazil can be visited.

Celo works as a layer 2 of Ethereum. This means it takes advantage of the security of Ethereum, but offers faster and cheaper transactions.
