Spain has been the queen of the internet in 2025. And it’s not me who says it, but Cloudflare, a key company in Internet infrastructure that works as a global network to accelerate and protect websites, applications and online services.

This company, well known in Spain for the confrontation it has with LaLiga and Javier Tebas over the IPTV blocks and its effect on the rest of the websites when football is on, publishes an annual report in which it analyzes internet trends and patterns.

In the report Cloudflare Radar 2025Spain has come out especially well, since this year, our country has been «consistently among the top in Internet quality metrics«.

Spain, connectivity leader in 2025

Although the highest connection speeds in the world have occurred in Europe, Spain is the leader in the main indicators and is consistently among the top positions in the ranking.

Spain had the highest download speed during 2025, with 318 Mbps on averageahead of Hungary, Portugal and Chile, and an improvement of 25 Mbps on average compared to last year’s data.

Our country was also the first in upload speed, with 206 Mbpswhich improves 13 MB/s compared to 2025.

Cloudflare has linked this data to the call for UNICO public aid to deploy broadband of at least 300 Mbps symmetrical, or 1 Gbps where possible, to 100% of the population in 2025.

Beyond that, Spain has also placed itself in the top 10 of countries with the Lowest latency, below 20ms on average at rest, the same as with loading latency, with an average of less than 100 milliseconds.

The data in this report is not so surprising if one takes into account that Spain was already first in the main indicators in both 2024 and 2023, in which it was also the leader in average connection download speed.

Other conclusions about global connectivity

The Cloudflare report has also led to other conclusions about the state of the world’s internet during 2025.

Internet traffic grows 19%. Global data volume continues to rise, with a significant rebound starting in August. He has also analyzed the technological trend of the moment, artificial intelligence, and its effect on the web. Website crawling by AI agents to perform “user actions” has increased 15-fold in just one year.

Starlink has also appeared in the report, Elon Musk’s satellite internet service. It has doubled its traffic by 2025, expanding to more than 20 new countries and regions, demonstrating the growing dependence on satellite connectivity.

In a milestone for crypto, 52% of human-generated web traffic is already protected with post-quantum encryption (PQC), preparing us for the era of quantum computing.

In terms of cybersecurity risks, cyberattacks have escalated in raw power in 2025. The size and intensity of denial-of-service attacks have increased significantly, putting global infrastructures to the test.

Apple devices generated 35% of global mobile traffic. In fact, Safari maintains its leadership as the main browser on the iOS platform, resisting Chrome’s push on other systems.

A worrying fact for network freedom is that nearly half of the 174 major internet outages seen in 2025 were deliberately caused by governments at regional or national level.

The report also warns about the danger in email, since more than 5% of the emails analyzed were malicious. Almost all of the emails coming from domains like .christmas and .lol turned out to be spam or security threats.
