The RAM crisis It has led us to see very strange things, but this one takes the prize: They already sell RAM memory kits with a fake module. And it’s not a scam. It’s to give you the illusion that you have two, even if you have only been able to afford one.
AI companies have bought up all the RAM for the next few years, so the little that remains has tripled in price. Buying a couple of 64 GB DDR5 RAM modules already costs more than the entire computer did a few months ago. One option is to buy just one, so you can use the new PC, and better times will come.
Unfortunately, current RAM is designed to work in pairsso using a single module severely reduces performance. To give you the illusion that you have two modules, or for aesthetic reasons, if you have a transparent box, V-color has put on sale a depressing RAM memory kit, which it calls 1 +1 Value Pack: a real module, and another with an empty case.
Is it worth using a single DDR5 module?
As you can see in the opening photo of the news, the modules are identical, but one is empty. Yes indeed, It has LEDs that light up to the rhythm of the good set, so that it is not so sad.
These fake modules have been around forever, so I’m not criticizing the product. The depressing thing is that V-Color releases this kit because memory is so expensive that buying two modules is prohibitive. Or, simply, because you can’t find stock.

V-Color tries to justify its 1 + 1 Value pack, recommending it for Ryzen processors with 3D cache, such as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Ryzen 7 9850X3D. The 3D cache memory ensures that RAM is accessed less, minimizing the performance drop when using a single module.
It also ensures that, with these processors, a single DD5 module performs 30% more than two DDR4 modules. Which is like saying that if you remove the engine from a racing motorcycle, at least you have a bicycle left… And whoever doesn’t take comfort in it is because they don’t want to.
The AMR crisis continues to rage. We users suffer from it, but also hardware sellers. Because without RAM, the rest of the components are not sold. Without RAM there is no PC.
