In January 2025, companies listed in the Spanish stock market distributed a total of 3,130 million euros among their shareholders, which represents an increase of 7.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. These data, provided by Spanish bags and markets (BME) and consulted by Europa Press, show significant growth in compensation to shareholders at the beginning of the new year.
The amount distributed to shareholders in January 2025 is practically similar to the figure distributed in December 2024, which amounted to 3,125 million euros. This constant dividend flow reflects the strength and stability of the companies quoted in the Spanish market.
In 2024, Spanish companies distributed a total of 37,860 million euros among their shareholders, marking an increase of 25% compared to the previous year. This data positions last year as the second with the greatest dividend distribution in the historical series.
Outstanding companies and their dividend payments
During the month of January 2025, outstanding companies such as Iberdrola, Repsol, Amadeus and Acerinox made significant dividends payments to their shareholders. Iberdrola disbursed about 450 million euros, Repsol 550 million, Amadeus 225 million and Acerinox 77 million, among others.
In addition, continuous market companies such as CIE Automotive, Faes Farma, Gestamp and Neinor Homes also contributed to the return of capital to the shareholders through the distribution of dividends. For example, Neinor Homes distributed 62.5 million among the participants.
Positive evolution of the Spanish stock market
The Spanish stock market has experienced a favorable period, with generalized revaluation. The reference index, the IBEX 35, closed the year 2024 with an increase of almost 15%, continuing an upward trend that had already been observed in 2023, when it registered an increase of 22.76%, the best data since 2009.
In January 2025, the IBEX 35 maintained its positive trend and closed with an advance of 6.67%, reaching maximum levels not seen since 2008. In February, the index continued rising, quoting above 13,000 points.
During the month of January 2025, the stock market capitalization of the companies quoted in Spain experienced an increase of 6%, equivalent to 73,400 million euros, reaching a total of 1,305 billion euros compared to the closure of 2024, according to data from data from Spanish bags and markets (BME).
In interannual terms, the stock market capitalization of the Spanish stock market has increased by 8.55%, which represents an increase of 102,865 million euros compared to January 2024.
Analysis by sectors and outstanding companies
In January 2025, financial entities saw their capitalization increased by almost 12%, equivalent to 25.9 billion euros, placing their total value at 245,285 million euros compared to the previous month.
On the other hand, companies in the oil and energy sector closed January with an increase of 1.5% in their capitalization, adding 2.5 billion euros and reaching a total of 167,850 million.
In the consumer goods sector, where Inditex stands out, capitalization increased 5.7% in January, which represents an increase of 10,410 million euros, reaching a total of 193,460 million.
According to BME data, the companies with the greatest capitalization at the end of January were Inditex, with 164,310 million euros; followed by Iberdrola, with 86,810 million; Santander Banco, with 75,215 million; BBVA, with 63,685 million; and Caixabank, with 42,015 million.
