The Spanish stock market closes 2024 with a 6% increase in variable income trading

The Spanish stock market closed the year 2024 with a total of 318,005 million euros traded in equities, which represents an increase in 6% compared to the previous year. During this period, the incorporation of Puig Brands B, Inmocemento and Cox into the main market stood out.

Monthly and annual balance of the markets

According to the monthly and annual balance of the markets published by Six, owner of BME, in December 2024, 23,780 million euros in variable income. Although this meant a drop in 13,7% compared to November, it also represented an increase in 5,6% compared to December 2023.

Regarding the number of negotiations carried out between January and December, there were 29.86 millionwhich meant an increase in the 5% compared to the previous year. In December, there were 2.11 million negotiationsand 7,8% less than in the same month of 2023 and a 17,1% lower than the November figure.

Fixed income and secondary market

In the secondary fixed income market, a volume of 103.9 billion euros in 2024, reflecting a decrease in 43,5% compared to 2023. In December, 4,724 million euros in fixed income, which meant a fall in the 44,3% compared to November and a 29,4% below December 2023.

Regarding the number of negotiations in the fixed income market, they were carried out 22,160 operations between January and December, showing a decrease in 30% compared to 2023. In December, 1,060 negotiationsand 35,2% less than in the same month of 2023 and a 29,8% lower than November.

Primary fixed income market and derivatives market

In the primary fixed income market, the volume admitted to trading was 367.4 billion euros in 2024, which represented a decrease in 9,4% compared to the same period in 2023.

In the derivatives market, the accumulated trading of Ibex 35 futures contracts decreased by 2% compared to 2023, with 4,525 contracts y 45,490 million euros. On the other hand, the trading of options on the Ibex 35 increased by 45,7% year-on-year, while stocks fell 14,2%.

Incorporations in the BME Growth, BME Scaleup and MARF markets

In addition to the aforementioned additions to the main market, the BME Growth and BME Scaleup markets added 23 companies in 2024, with a total volume of 573.5 million euros in capital increases.

On the other hand, the MARF (Alternative Fixed Income Market) received 14 new issuers and reached a total of 161 companies that have used this market since its launch in 2013. The total volume issued in the MARF was 16,583 million euros.

Development of the Ibex 35 in 2024

The Ibex 35, the main indicator of the Spanish market, closed the year 2024 with an increase of almost 15% in a context marked by global economic resilience, the beginning of the cycle of monetary flexibility by central banks and the victory of Donald Trump in the United States presidential elections. Including dividends distributed, the total return of the index reached 20%.

According to market data consulted by Europa Press, the Ibex 35 managed to chain its second consecutive year of advances, with an increase in 22,76% in 2023, its best record since 2009. In the last two years, the Ibex has accumulated a revaluation of 40,9%.
