If you thought that Waze and Google Maps were your great allies when it comes to preventing radar from hunting you, There is a new application that is causing a stir among drivers, but that not everyone knows.

Completely free, it is called HeliCops and, precisely, it has been developed by Spanish entrepreneurs. This is an app specialized in detecting radars through the air. And there are already great tools to detect those that are on the ground. However, the situation is complicated in the other situation.

For example, the famous Pegasus, the DGT helicopter, uses high-resolution cameras and sensors that record license plates and calculate speed with millimeter precision. This is where HeliCops comes into play.

One of its great keys is its ultra-active community of users. While Google Maps and Waze “rely” heavily on official data, HeliCops is powered by a network of drivers who report in real time about everything they see on the road. From mobile radars to breathalyzer controls, to construction sites or accidents, nothing escapes them.

Despite its usefulness, be careful because the use of this app raises doubts about whether or not it is legal

In addition, the app uses information from ADSBExchange, a website that tracks air traffic, to notify if there is a DGT helicopter in the area.

Aside from the helicopter issue, This app has also become quite famous for its ability to detect the dreaded “invisible” radars of the DGTthose that not even Google Maps can locate. And not only that, it also warns you of section radars and velolasers. The big problem is that these radars are mobile and are not marked, which causes many drivers to end up falling.

Originally created for Tesla cars, Helicops can be used by any vehicle with a navigator. Of course, finally clarify that its usefulness is undeniable, it is still not clear if its use is legal. If it is considered a radar detector, it could lead to fines of up to 500 euros and the loss of points on the driving license.
