However, there is a user who did not want to wait for Tesla, Hyundai or LG: he has decided to create his own robot. In this case, with a very specific objective: folding the clothes. AND He has done it using a Rapsberry Pi as a brain.
It is curious that it is not the only invention of this type that sees the light in recent hours. Recently, without going any further, an engineer created his own automated umbrella using a drone.
Could it be that robotics is not only around the corner, but will also no longer be something limited exclusively to large international technology companies?
Create your own robot to fold clothes
At this point it is not too surprising that there is a robot capable of folding clothes. Rare is the day when a company does not emerge that shows a model capable of doing something: traveling great distances casually, practicing martial arts, or even giving an unattractive kick to its main designer. The surprising thing is that someone created it by themselves, and using a Raspberry Pi.
The popular low-cost minicomputer has been, in fact, the basis around which the entire project has revolved. Many people use it for their more or less amateur projects, but in this case the objective has gone further. The device has acted as a central controller for the system, coordinating motors, sensors and that sort of thing.
Another striking fact is that the creator of the robot, Nick Maselli has carried out his invention in less than 24 hours. So that later the Tesla designers do nothing but delay and delay the promised sale of their high-profile Optimus. He himself has shown in a YouTube video what the entire process was like, and what the result was.
The process, to tell the truth, is quite basic. It consists of placing the garment spread out on a platform. From there, the robot executes a series of programmed movements that fold the clothes following a predefined pattern. As for the arms and other parts of the «creature», Maselli created them with a 3D printer. For operation, the Raspberry Pi was used.
Are we facing the democratization of robotics?
Only a decade ago, imagining that someone could make their own robot, for folding clothes or whatever, was nothing short of unthinkable. I was limited to old science fiction movies. Now, however, with some knowledge and a Raspberry Pi it is possible to do it.
Could it be that robotics will soon become democratized and become the protagonist of a «do it yourself» phenomenon? Maybe yes, or maybe not. At the moment it is difficult to imagine if not even the big technology companies have managed to bring their robots to fruition. At least, for now.
