After several years without great novelties, VLC, one of the most popular multimedia players in the world, returns with an update full of improvements.
The new version, 3.0.22 RC1, incorporates for the first time native support for Windows 11 on ARM64 devices, after more than a year of tests. This will allow users of equipment with ARM processors to enjoy more fluid and stable performance.
According to the company responsible, currently Windows 11 computers in ARM spend 90 % of their time using native applications, a significant advance compared to previous years, when most programs did not offer compatibility with this architecture.
In addition, this update also restores compatibility with Windows XP Service Pack 3, an operating system that still retains a small base of faithful users.
Among other outstanding improvements are included Compatibility with QT6 and recent QT5 versions; improvements in video decoding and subtitles arrangements; Optimization in audio detection in different formats and incorporation of new reproduction and support functions for advanced formats.
It is important to note that version 3.0.22 RC1 is in the phase of Release Candidateso it is not yet available in a general way.
Advanced users can compile it from the official repository in Github, while the rest must wait for the stable launch to update as usual.
With this update, VLC adds to the growing list of applications that offer native support for Windows in ARM.
