The European Union has several US technology companies, due to the breach of the Digital Markets Law – or DMA), although the final judgment does not finish arriving.

In the absence of the approval of Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, and with all the technical information collected and investigated, it seems that the reason for delaying the sentence can be explained by current tensions with the United States.

«The fact that key research is being delayed and politicizing, in the context of commercial conversations, sends a wrong sign,» he said POLITICO Stéphanie Yon-Courtin, member of the European Parliament by the Renew Liberal Group.

In this sense, there have been few criticisms of the Donald Trump administration towards European regulations that regulate the actions of great technological ones. This has happened with figures close to the president, such as Andrew Ferguson, responsible for the Federal Commerce Commission (FTC).

As collected EFEduring a visit to the United States of Teresa Ribera, first vice president and competence commissioner of the European Commission, Ferguson defined European legislation as «a tax on US companies».

It should be noted that Ferguson’s appointment came in January, after the cessation of Lina Khan, which demanded several companies, among which are Amazon, Microsoft or Nvidia; The new president, thus, is in charge of one of the latest antitrust investigations against Meta.

Again, everything is directed again to Trump’s environment, since beyond appointments associated with the Republican Party, he has also surrounded himself with the great magnates of the technology industry, such as Mark Zuckerberg, called to declare for the purchase of WhatsApp and Instagram.

The goal owner, precisely, has several times his support for Trump, including millionaire economic donations during the campaign to the latest presidential.

In the middle of this tense context on the commercial level, as experts have commented, the European Commission could use the DMA as a trick in favor to try to compensate for the power of great technological ones.

At the moment, the commission has not trembled his pulse and has sanctioned this type of companies covered in the legislative umbrella, as the recent case of Apple, which received a fine of 1.8 billion euros for violating the antimonopoly laws of the European Union.

In turn, others such as Google have expressed that European law will not comply with to fight misinformation, in the middle of a really tense commercial context that, it seems, responds more to international political movements.
