We are going to have an important change in the security of the Chrome browser. Starting in October next year, with the arrival of version 154, By default, Google will activate the “Always use secure connections” function.
Until now, This setting was only available manuallybut with this change, the browser will always try to load web pages using HTTPS and will only alert the user when they visit a public HTTP site that does not support this secure connection.
As they explain, this decision responds to the need to protect users against security risks. Without HTTPS, attackers could intercept traffic, redirect to malicious pages, or hijack browsing. Although almost 99% of sites now use HTTPS, there are still some exceptions that pose a risk.
The deployment of this measure will be done gradually. Specifically, starting in April 2026, the function will be activated for users enrolled in Enhanced Safe Browsingand later, with version 154, it will be extended to other users.
Chrome will always try to load the HTTPS version of all sites first and will only show warnings on new or rarely visited pages that don’t support HTTPS. Users who wish can deactivate the function manually.
It should be noted that private sites, such as router pages or corporate intranets, they will not receive warnings by defaultsince to exploit them attackers usually need access to the same network.
In this way, the measure will not only increase technical security, but will also establish safe browsing as a general standard for all users.
So millions of people will be able to access the Internet more securely through Chrome starting next year.
