The Zksync team, a second -layer network (L2) of Ethereum, presented Atlas, an update of the ZK Stack that represents an important step towards its vision of building a network of sovereign chains, secured by cryptography and oriented to the global economy.
The ZK Stack is the Zksync open source tools set that allows to developers and companies create custom cryptocurrenciespublic or private, with control over privacy, economy and access, integrated into an interoperable network anchored in Ethereum.
If the promises that Atlas bring, for end users it would imply almost instantaneous and much cheaper transactionsreducing current delays and costs when interacting with decentralized applications (dApps).
For developers, it represents a jump in scalability and efficiency, allowing thousands of transactions per second with rapid and safe cryptographic tests.
The three pillars of the ZKSYNC Atlas update in Ethereum
In principle, with Atlas, Zksync Incorporates support for multiple virtual machine configurations (including total compatibility with Ethereum EVM).
Second, the ZK Stack update Add a new transaction sequencerwhich was designed from scratch with three main objectives:
- Increase performance, even in moments of high congestion.
- Reduce latency for operations to be rapidly included.
- Simplify the system, a key aspect to facilitate the maintenance and scalability of the protocol.
As detailed, the sequencer’s performance would be as follows, reaching different levels of processing according to the type of operation:
- 15,000 transactions per second (TPS) in Stablecoins transferswith an approximate consumption of 0.5 gigagas per second (a unit that estimates the computational load of an operation in Ethereum) and a inclusion time of 500 milliseconds.
- 23,000 TPS for high frequency price updatesusing 0.66 gigagas/Sy with a latency of 250 ms.
- 43,000 TPS in ETH transferswith 0.9 gigagas/SY a inclusion time of 450 ms.
Third, the Atlas update includes Airbender, its new zero knowledge test system (ZK proofs) Based on RISC-V.
This system promises optimize the cryptographic validation process and decrease the cost of operations to around «0.0001 dollars» for tokens transfer test of the ERC-20 standard (used in Ethereum).
Airbender, they explain in the statement, will allow «to achieve purpose in a second for each block», reducing confirmation times without compromising security.
Among its main characteristics, they stand out:
- Quick tests and accelerated completion: Each block can generate its cryptographic test in a second, with complete confirmation in Ethereum in a few minutes.
- Airbender can validate any program compiled in RISC-V Architecture, which expands the development possibilities.
- Hardware efficiency: requires less resources than other test solutions, reducing operating costs and improving scalability.
From the Ethereum Foundation (EF) stressed that innovations such as Atlas mark a key step towards a more scalable and efficient ecosystem.
By allowing almost instant and low -cost transactions, these improvements would not only optimize the user’s experience, but also bring the possibility that «Millions of operations are verified by light deviceswithout sacrificing security or neutrality, ”they said.
