That is just what promises the new graphite bomb that China has shown in an official video: a weapon capable of disabled an entire electricity network without physically destroying anything. There are no explosions, nor craters, nor smoke, only a total and sudden blackout.
The news has run like gunpowder because this is already fully operational to act whenever you want. Without going any further, Chinese state television has already taught how this weapon, developed by the Chinese state giant Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), can be launched from land and release dozens of submunitions about its goal.
When falling, these small cylinders explode in the air and spread chemically treated carbon threads, which, in contact with transformers and substations, cause short -circuits and leave all the electrical infrastructure of the area out of combat.
The big problem of all this chaos is that without electricity, everything stops: hospitals, transport, communications, banks, drinking water, internet … can cause chaos in a matter of minutes and leave millions of people for combat. The dispersion of the submunitions is guided by satellite, which allows to attack exactly the most vulnerable point of the enemy electricity grid.
Of course, comment that it is not the first time that this technology is used and the United States has already used graphite pumps in Iraq and Serbia in the 90s, managing to leave without light to 85% of the national electricity grid in a matter of hours. However, the Chinese version comes with great improvements in precision, scope and dispersion capacity.
Many analysts believe that the most likely objective of this weapon would be Taiwan, given the tension between Beijing and the island. If it is carried out, you could leave the island completely in the dark at the start of a conflict, fully putting the defense and coordination of any military response.
