Google is exploring new ways to change users’ digital lives with its Gemini platform, and one of the most interesting features in development is the creation of personalized 3D avatars.
This feature will allow users to generate a realistic digital representation of themselves, which can then be integrated into generative content directly from Gemini.
The idea of this function called Likenesses It initially debuted with Android XR, where users could participate in video calls while keeping their extended reality headsets on, while a digital avatar represented their appearance.
Now, Gemini appears to be taking it a step further by expanding this technology, offering the ability to create an avatar that works on both mobile devices and desktop browsers.
According to the most recent findings in version 17.11.54 of the Google app for Android, there is explicit reference to Gemini “Avatars”, which use a workflow similar to that of the app Likeness: The user’s head is scanned using the phone’s camera to generate a 3D model.
Once created, the Avatar can be inserted into any content generated in Gemini, facilitating the customization of images, scenes or projects quickly and coherently.
This integration opens up a range of possibilities for content creators, digital artists and developers looking to consistently incorporate their digital identity into XR and artificial intelligence projects.
Although the feature is still in development, Google’s documentation suggests that the process will be intuitive and cross-platform, with support on both phones and PCs via web browser.
